By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. How We Collect Personal Information
- Registration: When you request access to Camp Snipe, you provide your name, email address, phone number, and a password.
- Contact form: If you submit our contact form, we collect your name, email, phone, message, and your explicit consent to be contacted.
- Use of the Service: When you set watches or adjust notification settings, we store your preferences and the associated Pushover user key or notification email you provide.
- Automatically: Our server logs and WordPress session system automatically collect your IP address, browser information, and pages visited when you use the Service.
3. How We Use Your Personal Information
- To create and manage your account and verify your identity.
- To process your access request and communicate our decision.
- To deliver campground availability notifications via email and/or Pushover push notification.
- To respond to your contact form submissions and customer service inquiries.
- To maintain the security and integrity of the Service.
- To comply with applicable legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
- To improve the Service through aggregate, non-identifiable analytics (e.g., which campgrounds are most-watched).
4. We Do Not Sell or Share Personal Information
Camp Snipe does not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not share your personal information for monetary or other valuable consideration. This section serves as our opt-out disclosure under CCPA/CPRA — there is nothing to opt out of because we do not engage in these practices.
5. Third Parties and Data Flows
We interact with the following third parties in the course of operating the Service:
- Recreation.gov: We make read-only HTTP requests to Recreation.gov's publicly available availability API endpoints to check campsite availability. We do not share your personal data with Recreation.gov in this process.
- ReserveCalifornia: We make read-only HTTP requests to ReserveCalifornia's publicly available availability data to check campsite availability. We do not share your personal data with ReserveCalifornia in this process.
- Pushover (Superblock, Inc.): If you enable Pushover notifications and provide your Pushover user key, we transmit a notification message and your Pushover user key to Pushover's API to deliver the push notification to your device. See Pushover's privacy policy at pushover.net for details on their data practices.
- WordPress email (wp_mail): Transactional emails (notification alerts, account communications) are sent via the WordPress mail system through our hosting provider's mail infrastructure. Your email address is used solely for delivery.
- Hosting provider: Our hosting infrastructure processes all data in the ordinary course of providing server, database, and network services. Our hosting provider does not use your data for its own purposes.
We do not use ad networks, marketing platforms, tracking pixels, or social media widgets. We do not disclose personal information to data brokers.
6. Cookies and Session Data
Camp Snipe uses session cookies solely for authentication — to keep you logged in while you use the Service. We do not use third-party tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics cookies. We do not use cookies to track you across other websites.
Do Not Track: Some browsers transmit a "Do Not Track" signal. Because Camp Snipe does not use cross-site tracking cookies or behavioral advertising, our Service already operates in a manner consistent with Do Not Track preferences. We do not otherwise alter our data collection practices based on Do Not Track signals.
7. CCPA/CPRA Consumer Rights
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the CCPA/CPRA:
- Right to Know / Access: You have the right to request that we disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, our business purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
- Right to Delete: You have the right to request that we delete the personal information we have collected about you, subject to certain exceptions (e.g., where retention is required by law or necessary to complete a transaction you requested).
- Right to Correct: You have the right to request that we correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
- Right to Opt Out of Sale/Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. If our practices change, we will update this Policy and provide an opt-out mechanism.
- Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: We only use your account credentials (hashed password) for the purpose of operating your account — we do not use sensitive personal information for inferring characteristics about you or for secondary purposes.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA/CPRA rights. We will not deny you services, charge different prices, or provide a different level of quality as a result of your exercising these rights.
How to Exercise Your Rights
To exercise any of the rights above, reach us via our contact page. Include your full name and the email address associated with your account so we can verify your identity. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days. If we need additional time (up to 90 days total), we will notify you within the initial 45-day period.
You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. Authorized agents must provide written authorization signed by you (or a power of attorney) and verify their own identity. We may require that you confirm the request directly to protect against fraudulent requests.
We do not charge a fee to process or respond to your verifiable consumer request unless it is excessive or manifestly unfounded. We will notify you if a fee applies before completing your request.
8. CalOPPA Disclosures
This Privacy Policy is posted prominently on the Service and accessible at all times. We review and update this Policy when our practices change. We will notify registered users by email of material changes and will update the effective date at the top of this Policy. Third parties that we engage (see Section 5) may collect personal information about your online activities over time and across different websites; however, we do not permit third parties to collect such information through the Camp Snipe Service for their own use.
9. Consent, TCPA, and CAN-SPAM
Contact Form Consent
Our contact form requires you to check an explicit consent box before submitting: "I agree to the Privacy Policy and consent to be contacted by phone, text, or email about my request." This constitutes your prior express written consent under the TCPA to receive calls, text messages, and emails from Camp Snipe in response to your inquiry. This consent is not a condition of any purchase.
Notification Emails (CAN-SPAM)
Transactional notification emails (campsite availability alerts) are sent to the email address you provide in your notification settings. These emails are initiated by your own watch settings. You can disable email notifications at any time from your dashboard notification settings. You may also reach us via our contact page to opt out of all email communications, and we will honor your request within 10 business days. All emails identify Camp Snipe as the sender and include a physical mailing address.
10. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Specifically:
- Account data (name, email, hashed password) is retained until you request deletion or your account is terminated.
- Watch data is retained while your account is active and deleted when you delete the watch or your account.
- Contact form submissions are retained for up to 24 months for customer service and compliance purposes, then deleted.
- Server and access logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes.
11. Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These include HTTPS/TLS encryption, hashed password storage, and access controls on our database. However, no internet transmission or storage system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security. If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, contact us immediately via our contact page.
12. Children
Camp Snipe is not directed to children under 16 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 16 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe we may have any information from or about a child under 16, contact us via our contact page.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. We will post the updated Policy on this page with a revised effective date and notify registered users by email of material changes. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
